On June 27, 1995, an intense wall of rain caused major flooding in many Park streams and radically altered some of them. On September 6, 1996, Tropical Storm Fran felled thousands of Park trees, clogging roads and trails. These two events also washed out some of the Park's trails, including horse trails, and destroyed some bridges. Hikers need to walk on the trails with care and watch out for standing dead trees.
